Yasunari Tsukada

1974年千葉県生まれ香川県高松市育ち。

大学は経済学部卒。在学中にデザインに目覚め、独学で勉強をはじめる。
大学卒業後、フリーとして活動を始め、飲食店など数店舗の設計に携わる。その後、設計事務所に入所し数多くの案件に従事。
株式会社スペース・キー・プランの常務取締役を経て、2012年塚田保成デザイン事務所を設立。

｢デザインとは新しいモノ・コトを発見的につくる行為｣と考え、日々デザイン活動を行っている。

クライアントの要望に対し、整理し編集して、クライアントが思っている以上の回答を出すこと、シンプルに言えばそれが私の仕事です。
家づくりも店舗デザインも家具デザインも、ベースの考え方は同じです。
様々なデザインを日々行っているからこそ、多くの視点とアイデアを持つことができ、それを双方向に活かしたデザインを行っています。

クライアントの要望は、設計の基です。
ただ要望通りにつくるのではなく、本質を考え、工夫を重ねることで、クライアントに最高の満足をお渡しできると思っています。

考えていること

僕はデザイナーです。建築の設計や空間デザイン、家具のデザインなどをしています。たかが名称ですが、自分のことを建築家やインテリアデザイナーと言ってしまうと何かを優先にしている気がして、結局単純に「デザイナー」ということにしています。
デザインの対象を決めていないので、対象のことはフラットに考えていて、「デザイン」という行為のことを常に考えています。
僕は、デザインは新しいモノ・コトを発見的につくる行為だと思っています。
例えば、「間違っていると思っていること」や「そうであるべきと思っていること」ははたして本当にそうなのか…ということを考え、捉え直し、異なる価値観を見つけたいと思っています。それが新しさです。
新しい価値観を知り、受け入れることは、豊かな日常を過ごすために必要なこと。
僕はモノづくりを通して、いろいろな価値観を提示していきたいと考えています。

Thinking through things

I am a designer. My work involves designing architecture, interiors, spaces, furniture and other objects. Although they’re just titles and designations, the act of referring to yourself as an architect or an interior designer seems to imply that you’re prioritizing one thing over another. So I’ve decided to simply call myself a “designer”. The scope of what I design isn’t fixed. I think about all things and objects on the same plane as possible targets for design, and constantly think about what it means to “design” something.
Personally, I feel that design is a heuristic act that involves creating and discovering new objects and things. Thinking that something is wrong or mistaken, or that something ought to be, or about whether something is really the case – I’m constantly turning these things around in my head, trying to get a different handle on things, or attempting to find a different sort of value within them. This, to me, is what it means to be new or innovative. In order to live rich and fulfilling everyday lives, we need to familiarize ourselves with new value systems, worldviews, and ways of accepting things. By making and crafting objects, I hope to be able to offer people a diverse range of new values.
